Entrance of the parliamentary building.

Come and visit us and find out more about the Hessian State Parliament. Tours are also available in other languages.

The Hessian State Parliament is where the policy of the state of Hesse is decided. But the State Parliament is not just a place for politics, it is also a place for education. How do the members of parliament work? What happens at a plenary session? And how are laws made? To answer these and other questions our visitors may have, the State Parliament offers different information and educational formats tailored to specific ages and target groups, making an important contribution to civic education.

When parliament is in session, you can watch plenary sessions live from the visitors’ gallery after registering in advance. First of all, you will hear a presentation introducing the work of parliament, the session currently being held and the schedule for your visit. After attending the plenary session, it is possible to talk to members of the State Parliament’s parliamentary groups.  The programme lasts 3.5 hours. The dates of the plenary sessions are available in our plenary calendar.

If you would like to attend a plenary session with your school class, this is recommended for pupils in Year 8 or above.

On days when the parliament is not in session, groups can visit parts of the historic City Palace and the Plenary Chamber by prior arrangement. Like on plenary days, visitors hear a presentation explaining the tasks, working methods and composition of the Hessian State Parliament. After the tour and presentation, it is possible to talk to members of the State Parliament’s parliamentary groups if desired.

Tours are generally possible from Monday to Friday. They last 2.5 hours and are usually conducted in German – on request and subject to advance booking, they can also be conducted in English, French, Russian and Ukrainian.

For individuals, the Hessian State Parliament usually offers public tours every Saturday at 1:45 p.m. No registration is required to participate.

The State Parliament website also lets you explore the building any time in the form of a virtual tour.

In addition to plenary visits and guided tours, the State Parliament offers numerous other activities for visitor groups, including simulations, seminars and dialogue events. An overview is available on the visitor pages of the State Parliament website.
